- •Role explicitly requires applied AI/ML and Computer Vision experience (model deployment, evaluation, fine‑tuning, video generation), indicating hands‑on use of AI tools and workflows.
- •Responsibilities include designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining large‑scale software and ML infrastructure — strong workflow integration and productionization signals.
- •Position expects technical leadership and cross‑team influence, showing strategic application of AI to drive product and team outcomes.
This Staff Software Engineer (AI/ML Computer Vision) role at Google scores highly on foundational needs: explicit, competitive compensation and benefits, and clear job stability from a large, established employer. The posting contains strong signals for esteem and self‑actualization through leadership responsibilities, research publication, open‑source contribution, and work that impacts products at scale. Culture and belonging signals exist (distributed teams, inclusive statement, coaching responsibilities), but team-level social/mentorship details are limited. The main concerns are the strict on-site requirement without flexibility information, the very broad technical expectations across multiple deep domains, and a lack of concrete, immediate project or team-level details. Overall, this is an attractive, high-fulfillment role for candidates meeting the senior technical and leadership bar, provided they clarify team fit and work‑life expectations during interviews.
- •On-site requirement (New York / Mountain View) with no remote or hybrid flexibility described — may limit candidates seeking flexibility.
- •Broad, deep set of required skills across CV, ML infrastructure, testing/launch, and architecture — could be difficult for a single candidate to fully satisfy at depth (risk of unrealistic breadth expectations).
- •Day-to-day team structure, reporting line and concrete project examples are not provided — candidate may have insufficient clarity on immediate responsibilities and workload.
- •Clear, competitive US base salary range ($197K–$291K) plus bonus, equity and benefits.
- •Employer is Google — strong stability signal and mature HR/benefits infrastructure.
- •Role is senior/staff-level with explicit technical leadership, high-impact scope and cross-team influence.
- •Which specific team and product area will I join (team size, direct manager/title, primary stakeholders) and what immediate projects would I be expected to own?
- •What are the top technical challenges for this role in the first 6–12 months, and which parts of the stack or ML lifecycle will I be expected to lead end-to-end?
- •How is success measured for this role in the first 90 days and at the 12‑month mark (metrics, deliverables, impact expectations)?
