What You'll Do
- Lead analytics projects focused on ad performance, client measurement, and experimentation.
- Design and oversee experiments to evaluate product impact and optimize advertising outcomes.
- Build forecasting models and apply Bayesian frameworks to support strategic decisions.
- Develop scalable data pipelines and reporting tools across cloud platforms.
- Communicate insights through clear, compelling visualizations for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Mentor junior data scientists and foster technical excellence across the team.
Basic qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in data science roles focused on advertising, marketing analytics, or client measurement, with a strong ability to connect data insights to business strategy.

- Proficient in Python or R and SQL, with 1+ years of experience writing code that supports both analytical rigor and scalable data workflows.
- 1+ year of experience working within cloud-based data environments (e.g., GCP, AWS, Azure), with a conceptual understanding of cloud infrastructure and its role in scalable analytics.

After submission
- •Role explicitly mentions building "AI-powered tools" and familiarity with AI/ML tools, indicating applied use of AI.
- •Strong workflow signals: responsibility for scalable data pipelines, cloud-based analytics, and reporting tools.
- •High tool proficiency: predictive modeling, Bayesian statistics, Python/R/SQL and cloud experience are core to the role.
This Senior Data Scientist role at Best Buy scores well overall (0.80). It strongly addresses safety and esteem needs: the company is large and stable, the role carries leadership responsibilities, and offers technically challenging work (experimentation, Bayesian modeling, scalable analytics). Physiological needs are partially met due to a clear and competitive salary range and full-time employment, but the posting omits explicit benefits details. Love & belonging and self-actualization are partially satisfied — the job references mentorship, collaboration, and interesting technical work but lacks concrete statements about team culture, DE&I, career progression, and formal professional development resources. Key candidate questions should focus on reporting structure, expectations for the first 90 days, on-site flexibility, and development/promotion support.
- •On-site requirement stated (Remote Type: on-site) with no nuance about hybrid or flexible arrangements — may be restrictive for candidates expecting remote/hybrid options.
- •No explicit mention of core employee benefits (health/dental/vision, retirement/401k, parental leave) or PTO — compensation is present but benefits package is unclear.
- •Role is described as "manager-level" but the title is Senior Data Scientist (not 'Manager' or 'Lead') and reporting/organizational structure is not specified — potential ambiguity about scope, direct reports, and promotion pathway.
- •Clear, competitive compensation range provided: $104,142 - $186,558/year.
- •Employer is a large, established organization (Best Buy: >1,000 stores; >85,000 employees) — strong stability signal.
- •Role explicitly described as manager-level: lead projects, mentor junior data scientists, influence cross-functional teams.
- •Who would I report to and what is the size and composition of the Ads Analytics team today (heads, cross-functional partners)?
- •What are the top priorities and expected deliverables for the first 90 days for this role, and what metrics will define success?
- •Can you describe the typical level of on-site presence required (fully on-site, hybrid flexibility, frequency of remote work) and any expectations around core hours or travel?
